I tried to at least complete my Korea posts but my effort and patience only lasted to Day 4 lol. Dying to blog about my experience at the Dream Concert 2015 leh, I should do it now that I am still free right (T_T). Currently my life is very relaxed, I want to go out but I can't because I need to rest my eyes and I can't put on make up (Let alone, wash my face lol) for at least a week. So everyday I am in bed watching dramas or listening to music - if my eyes get tired.
My training starts on 6 July, and from the 1st to 5th I will be going for a short holiday with my family to Bangkok :) So from now till then, I am just resting zzz (& going crazy online with Jocelyn every night hahaha)
So anyway, I did my Lasik on the 15 June, Monday, at Eagle Eye Centre, Mt Alvernia. When you search up this place you'd tend to see Dr. Julian's name everywhere but mine wasn't done by him. Because my priority was to get it done by this week, in time for my holiday and training. I had my lasik procedure done by Dr Jacob instead, who was available on that particular date. & imo, he is equally good. It's my 3rd day post-lasik and I'm happily watching dramas and blogging already. It is not a rash decision, I've been considering Lasik since forever because my eyesight is really bad and I thought now is the perfect time to do it since I am so free.
Everybody ask me why I bother to Lasik?????? Wah Idk why I tend to be around negative people (like myself) hahaha but anyway here it goes...
1. You'll go blind
2. There will be many side effects such as cornea infection, dry eyes etc.
(dry eyes and blurry vision will be gone within a week. Whereas, Cornea infection, only 0.4% kena but can be treated anyway)
3. You only can do it once in your life so you can't do it again if it increases next time
(Not true, it depends on your cornea thickness! )
4. You wear spectacles one meh?
(HAHA, I get this quite a lot, but I'm probably one of the blindest friend you ever know @ 7.25 (R) and 9.00 (L). )
5. You cannot wear coloured lenses already
(Can. It is said that we cannot wear lenses because after lasik, the shape of the cornea will be flatter so the lenses - which are usually quite round, will not be able to fit properly. However, since my eyes are already rounder than average, Lasik will not affect my wearing of lenses. But I don't think I need to wear it often already hehe)
Firstly, we won't go blind. Nobody has gone blind in Singapore through Lasik. There are so many reputable clinics/doctors with advanced machines there's no reason why we will suddenly turn blind. Furthermore, we are required to go for detailed pre-assessment tests before the doctor deem us safe for the operation. I had a total of 4 eye check up on the day - degree, cornea thickness, curvature and doctor's screening and examination of the eyeball. Turns out that the thickness of my cornea is pretty thick so I can choose to do the Bladeless Lasik or the EpiLasik. However, my degree was relatively high, and my eyeball is 'rounder' than average so in order to prevent difficulty in cornea re-attachment I was recommended to do an extra procedure - Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking, basically to ensure a healthier and firmer cornea.
I chose to do Bladeless Lasik because
- I'M AFRAID OF PAIN. Doctor promised me that this procedure is not painful AT ALL. Unlike Epilasik which requires the manual scrapping of the outer tissue of the cornea.
- Recovery period is fast, within a week. Epi-lasik takes up to 3 months.
- I do not have to worry about not being able to 'edit' my procedure again because my cornea is thick.
Simple reasons, but yes most importantly it was the pain that I wanted to avoid the most - I damn drama one.
Lasik Day
So my operation was done on the same day as my eye check-up. It took the entire day though. My appointment for the check-up was 11.30 am and my surgery was only at 5.30 pm lol. My parents were with me so we even had the time to drive out for a long lunch break before coming back for the actual operation.
The procedure:
1. They gave me painkillers, some sort of calming drug and anti-gastric pills. The calming drug is damn good I swear, I was nervous as fuck before entering the op room but after being fed that pill I felt so ZEN & NUA haha like as if I was going for a Spa instead of an operation.
2. They cleaned my eyes and spammed numbing eyedrops into my eyes so that I will not feel anything.
3. Once I entered the op room, I was made to lie down on the bed (like the dentist bed?) and Dr Jacob started on my right eye first. So he taped my eyelashes and closed the other eye with a patch. I just had to focus on the green light above me.
4. The machine then held my right eye, he said I would feel a bit of pressure here, I did but it was nothing unbearable, just felt like I was wearing a tight goggle.
5. After my eye was held, my vision was dark for a few seconds and after awhile I could see the green light again so I continue focusing on that. That's when the laser started I think - I cannot remember the sequence well. Dr Jacob talked to me occasionally to ensure that I was fine and he also countdown the time for me lol. It wasn't painful at all, I just stared at the green light throughout and I did not even notice the burning smell, maybe cuz I was breathing with my mouth instead hahahaa.
6. After the laser, he poured yellow liquid into my eyes - it looked so magical and glittery lol. After awhile he washed it off and turned my chair to another laser which had pink lights. All these are part of the extra collagen thing that I was required to do.
7. He washed and cleaned my eyes - I can't really tell what he was doing, but I can see something in my vision being cleared away and water being poured. And then he will adjust the flap back to proper. And it was done. I think it only took 5 minutes or less for each eye. Because the laser itself was just for a few seconds. The left side was the same procedure. He told me my left eye will feel more discomfort because my brain has already signalled my eye to prepare for a surgery so it's more sensitive - but it didn't happen to me - it was equally painless. I only remember him telling me that my left eye required 19 seconds of laser because the degree is high, so I guess for normal people it is way shorter. Oh, and he put a temporary contact lens on my eyes at the end of the procedure.
It ended fast, and suddenly he told me to stand up and take a photo with him lol. I was still in a daze, but I could already figure out the time on the clock hanging on the wall. I walked out to the reception and my parents were already there with my medicine all ready to leave. (After paying the damage of 4K plus)
My eyes were sensitive to light, so once I got home, I wore the sleeping goggles (they will give you one to wear in order to prevent you from accidentally touching your eyes when you sleep), plugged in my earphone, played my music and slept all the way to the next day. Only waking up occasionally for my eyedrops.
Post-Lasik Day 1
When I woke up the next day, my vision was clear already but still foggy. I had to go down again for my first check up - everything was fine he said. He removed my contact lens after putting the numbing eye drops so I did not feel any discomfort or pain.
Post- Lasik Day 3
I am just lazing around. Religiously putting my eyedrops and waiting patiently for the day when my vision is 100% clear. My next check up is on the 22nd June, Monday.
Anyway just for the procedure excluding the consultation is: $3424 (Bladless Lasik) + $1070 (Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking). Even after referral discount I think the total damage will be around $5k including all the consults lol. Thank you daddy, I will pay you back one.
Pre Lasik : My no make up spectacled face
Post Lasik: How I look like wearing the goggles when I sleep hahahaa
P.S I still can't put on any make up for another 2 weeks! and no Pilates and Swimming for a month omg.
Sacrifices for perfect vision :)
